If there's something essential to see in Abu Dhabi, it's the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, which preserves the traditional appearance of Arab mosques but was built in this century. It is named in honor of the first president of the Emirates, Zayed ibn Sultan Al Nahyan, who also has his mausoleum there. No expenses were spared for its construction, and marble and gold were used, along with seven Swarovski crystal chandeliers that can weigh... up to 12 tons!
