Get ready for a ghost story! The story of this monastery is almost as incredible as its beauty. When King Mindon, one of the most popular kings in the history of Myanmar, died in one of his quarters, his son believed that his soul wandered around that area. So he had it demolished and built the monastery to appease his father. This is one of the incredible stories you will discover during your visit to the Shwenandaw Monastery. In fact, this part is the only thing left of the Golden Palace, which had survived the relocation from Amarapura to Mandalay but was destroyed during World War II.
"A teak wood marvel with four different levels of roofs"
During your visit to the Shwenandaw Temple you can stroll through its halls and surroundings and be amazed by the incredible carvings in wood and its traditional Burmese architecture, built entirely in teak. Because yes, Myanmar or Burma, as it was known back then, has had many capitals, and each of them has left a profound mark of tradition and art that has survived to this day. Are you encouraged to travel to the past with one of Myanmar's most superstitious stories?
I like to explore off the beaten path, where the known lacks mystery. Traveling alone allows me to discover remote places, enjoy landscapes, and learn from local communities. I am a free spirit who follows his impulses and enjoys every moment, choosing destinations without hesitation, as each place has its own soul.
