Trips to Dzong Tashichoe

If there is something that sets Bhutan apart from other countries, it is its Dzongs, fortress-monasteries that seem to emerge out of nowhere in every corner of the country. In the northernmost part of Bhutan's capital, you can visit Tashichoe Dzong, the most important of all, the seat of government of Bhutan and the traditional home of Dharma Raja, the spiritual king of the country and reincarnation of Padmasambhava. But this is by no means the only reason why a trip to Thimphu is worthwhile. Whether in winter or summer, its traditional architecture, which uses wood as its main element, can leave anyone in awe.

Visiting Tashichoe Dzong, its Throne Room, and some of its ministries is an excellent plan at any time of the year. In summer, the gardens fill everything with their greenery; in winter, the dense snow of the Himalayas covers every inch of land, creating scenes straight out of a children's storybook. However, the best time to visit this fortress in the northernmost part of Thimphu is around October, when the tenth day of the month is celebrated in the lunar calendar, through a festival known as Tsechu which lasts four days.
